MCU Exchange is a fanworks exchange for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This includes Marvel Netflix.
Please note that the requests and tagset for this exchange will contain Endgame spoilers!
Please direct any questions to the Dreamwidth community (comment on this post - anon commenting is on) or email the mod at thedevilchicken+mcu@gmail.com.
Participants will either write a newly-created work of fanfiction of at least 500 words or create an original piece of art at the 'nice sketch' stage (no manipulations and graphics) fulfilling one of their recipient's requests.
The exchange is run on AO3. Updates and information will be posted on the Dreamwidth community.
This exchange is open to fanworks focusing on single characters and on relationships (gen or romantic). All ships, characters, ratings and genres are welcome. Participants are expected to be respectful of others' likes/dislikes. Bashing of ships, characters, kinks, requests, etc. will lead to an immediate ban from this exchange.
Nominations/eligibility
- The tagset for nominations is here. An AO3 account is required.
- You can nominate up to 20 characters/relationships per account. This is the AO3 limit; feel free to nominate with additional accounts if you need more.
- Characters and relationships will all be nominated in the Character slots.
- Input "Marvel Cinematic Universe" in the "Fandom?" slots. This is the same even if you're nominating Netflix or Crossovers.
- Nominations can be either single characters (e.g. Carol Danvers) or relationships (e.g. Group: Nebula & Rocket or Group: Tony Stark/Stephen Strange).
- & relationships are platonic; / relationships are sexual and/or romantic.
- Relationships including more than two people (including a mix of / and &) are eligible.
- Crossover relationships are allowed, but characters from other canons cannot be nominated on their own (i.e. you can nominate relationship: Group: Tony Stark/Bruce Wayne (DCEU), but not Bruce Wayne (DCEU)). You must include the canon the other character comes from in brackets after their name.
- There are no requirements regarding rarity, gender, etc.
- You can edit your nominations as long as they haven't already been approved by the mod.
Signups
- Signups will be open from May 6 to May 13 on AO3.
- You can request 2-50 characters and/or relationships (1-5 per request slot). You can request fanfic and/or fanart.
- You can offer 3-50 characters and/or relationships (1-5 per request slot). You can offer fanfic and/or fanart.
- Note: crossover relationships will not count toward these minimums.
- You are only guaranteed to match on one character/relationship and one medium (fic or art).
- Please include anything you absolutely don't want to receive (Do Not Wants) in the Optional Details field in your AO3 signup. In the event that a DNW is included in your gift, only reasonable DNWs noted in your signup will be enforced.
- Optional details may be included in your signup in order to give your gifter further details on your likes and dislikes. This is optional.
- Dear Creator letters may be linked to in your signup in order to give your gifter further details on your likes and dislikes. These are optional.
- If you are unmatchable as a creator (i.e. no one is requesting anything you are willing to create), the mods will contact you when signups close and ask you to add more offers. If you do not reply within 24 hours, your signup will be deleted.
- If you are unmatchable as a recipient (i.e. no one is offering anything you are requesting), your requests will be posted to the Dreamwidth community for claiming as a pinch hit (see below).
- Requests will be visible during signups. Please note that requests may contain Endgame spoilers.
- You can edit or delete your signup as long as signups are open.
Assignments
- You are only guaranteed to match on one character/relationship and one medium (fic or art).
- You must create a fanwork that matches your recipient's requested medium (fic or art) and one of their requested characters/relationships. You are expected to respect your recipient's Do Not Wants as stated in their signup on AO3.
- Fanfiction must be at least 500 words, finished, and stand-alone (i.e. not a sequel to a fic you've written before or part of a series).
- Art must be an original work created entirely by you. Graphics and manipulations cannot fulfil an art request.
- You can write/draw a character/relationship you did not initially offer if your recipient requested it.
- Assignments are secret: do not talk about who you're writing/drawing for until author reveals (not in public; you can of course discuss it with, for example, a beta reader).
- You cannot change your assignment. If you have received an assignment that does not match any of your offers, contact the mod immediately.
Posting Your Work
- Post your finished fic/art on AO3 by clicking on "Assignments" on your AO3 dashboard, finding your MCU Exchange 2019 assignment and clicking on "Post to fulfil".
- You can post your work at any point between receiving your assignment and the deadline. Do not repost your work elsewhere (e.g. on tumblr) before reveals.
- You can edit your work after posting it.
- A saved draft does not count as a posted work. Make sure you have actually posted your work by the deadline.
Defaulting
- If you cannot finish your work, find your assignment under "Assignments" on your AO3 dashboard and click on "default".
- If you default and your creator defaults as well, you will not be assigned a pinch hitter.
Pinch Hitting
- Information about pinch hits will be posted on the Dreamwidth community.
- You can claim a pinch hit even if you aren't signed up for the exchange, but you will need an AO3 account.
Treats
- You may write/draw additional fanworks for your recipient or other participants and post them in the exchange collection as treats.
- To do this, navigate to the exchange collection, click "Post to Collection" and manually add the recipient's AO3 username in the "Gift this work to" field.
- Treats do not have to fulfil the minimum requirements.
- You can post treats even if you aren't signed up for the exchange.
